How to choose a brain training program without getting lost in the claims

A good comparison starts with boring details. What do you do, how often do you do it, what does it cost, and what evidence supports the exact promises being made?

1. Define the routine

Look for a concrete explanation of session length, activities, devices, and frequency. If the routine itself is hard to describe, the marketing may be doing too much of the work.

2. Separate product evidence from category evidence

Research on puzzles, gamma activity, or cognitive training does not automatically validate a specific commercial program.

3. Read the payment terms

Check whether the price is one time or recurring. Look for optional add ons and understand the refund process before paying.

4. Consider privacy

Apps may collect account, device, or performance data. Read the privacy policy when the product requires an account or stores personal information.

5. Watch health language

Claims about treating disease, reversing decline, or producing guaranteed cognitive outcomes deserve especially strong evidence.

6. Ask whether you will use it

A modest routine you enjoy can be more useful in practice than an elaborate program you abandon.
